Community caregivers are essential in addressing HIV-related stigma and discrimination, as they serve as trusted agents of change within their communities. Through their close relationships with individuals and families affected by HIV, they are well-positioned to challenge misconceptions, promote accurate information, and model compassionate, nonjudgmental care.

By providing psychosocial support, facilitating disclosure in safe environments, and advocating for the rights of people living with HIV, community caregivers help reduce fear, silence, and isolation.
Their presence in homes and communities fosters a culture of empathy and acceptance, which is crucial for improving uptake of services, adherence to treatment, and the overall well-being of those affected by HIV.
On June 11, 2025, Chinengundu Clinic in Chegutu, Zimbabwe, was a hive of activity as the
AFROCAB Zimbabwe team joined dedicated community caregivers to tackle barriers to optimal treatment for Advanced AIDS Disease (AHD).
Together, the team and community caregivers highlighted the power of community outreach in addressing myths, stigma, and discrimination around #HIV and #AIDS.
